My e-Mail address:

What else can I collect?

What happened on that day in History?

Have stamps with circle date stamps (CDS)? Well how about finding out what happened on that day in History.

For example:

Take this Revenue stamp.

Scott R27c

What happened on July 7, 1864?

Check out that date on Google or whatever and find out.

This is what I found.

  • Congress appropriates $2 million for restoration of Ford's Theater.

Ca 1780 (Large bldg. on Right)      Present day

What about the printing on the stamp? W.H. Seward Jr & Co. Auburn, N.Y.

  • William H. Seward was the secretary of State under Aberham Lincoln. (the stamp has "Jr."),  He did have a grandson W. H. Seward Jr., Also found a Colonel W. H. Seward, Jr.. He was killed July 4, 1864 at the battle of Monocacy.  Can't find anything about a Co.

 William H. Seward (1801-1872), ca. 1865

 Scott 803  Nov. 17, 1945

Not too much of interest on that date.

  • "Girl from Nantucket" closes at Adelphi Theater New York City after 12 performances
  • New world air speed record 606 mph (975 kph) set by HJ Wilson of RAF

Scott 806 (from booklet pane of 6)

This is good date.

  • The Battle of Peleliu  in the Phillippines started on this date. The Battle of Peleliu, like the bloody World War II island campaigns before it, was a fight to capture an airstrip on a small coral island in the Western Pacific. And, as with previous island battles, the Americans prevailed, but at a higher cost than anticipated, against the determined resistance of the Japanese forces.  U.S. Casualties: 2,336 killed and 8,450 wounded. Empire of Japan Casualties: 10,695 killed, 202 captured
